3. Cookies

QuakeMap24 uses technically necessary cookies and local storage to provide essential functions such as language selection and saving your cookie settings. These are required for operation.

Optional services, currently Google Analytics, are loaded only after your explicit consent. Optional categories are disabled by default. Your selection is stored in your browser's local storage for no longer than 180 days.

You can change or withdraw your selection at any time using the permanently accessible “Cookie settings” button. When consent is withdrawn, known optional first-party cookies are deleted and the relevant services will no longer load after the page reloads. You can also delete cookies and local storage in your browser.

“Earthquakes near you” location feature

The “Earthquakes near you” feature accesses your precise location only after you grant permission through your browser. The coordinates are used exclusively in your browser to calculate straight-line distances to recorded earthquakes. Your precise location is not transmitted to QuakeMap24, stored, written to cookies or local storage, or shared with analytics services.

Without location permission, the IP address already processed to deliver the page may be used once to derive an approximate region. This lookup is performed locally on the QuakeMap24 server using the DB-IP City Lite database; the IP address is not sent to DB-IP or another external geolocation service and the result is not stored. The approximate position is used only to display nearby earthquakes.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your browser settings. General earthquake information and static city pages remain available regardless.

The same applies to processing operations necessary to carry out pre-contractual measures. If our company is subject to a legal obligation, the processing is based on Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR. In rare cases, processing may be based on Art. 6(1)(d) GDPR (vital interests). Finally, processing operations may be based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest), provided that the interests, fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not override these interests.

In some cases, it may be necessary for the conclusion of a contract that a data subject provides personal data which must subsequently be processed by us. Failure to provide personal data would mean that the contract could not be concluded. Prior to providing personal data, the data subject may contact us to clarify whether the provision of the personal data is required and what the consequences of non-provision would be.

13. Existence of Automated Decision-Making

As a responsible company, we do not use automatic decision-making or profiling.
